سردیوں کی ایک روشن صبح عمران نذیر اور میں قذافی اسٹیڈیم کے برابر میں واقع نیشنل کرکٹ اکیڈمی میں بیٹھے ہیں۔ عمران نذیر نے زبردست مقبولیت سمیٹنے والی پاکستان سپر لیگ (پی ایس ایل) کے موقعے کی مناسبت سے لاہور قلندرز کی ٹی شرٹ پہنی ہوئی ہے۔
جس طرح طوفان کے بعد سورج چمکتا ہے ٹھیک ویسے ہی سیاہ کیپ کا اگلا حصہ پیچھے کیے، کندھے جھکائے پلاسٹک کی کرسی پر بے تکلفانہ انداز میں بیٹھے پاکستان کے سابق بلے باز کے وجود سے مثبت توانائی کی کرنیں نکل رہی ہیں۔ مگر ان کے لیے محض 5 برس قبل اس قسم کی لچک ناقابل تصور سی محسوس ہوتی۔
وہ بتاتے ہیں کہ، ’میں اپنے ہاتھوں کا استعمال نہیں کرپاتا تھا۔ میں اپنی انگلیوں کو پوری طرح سے موڑنے سے بھی قاصر تھا، ان میں اکڑن پیدا ہوگئی تھی۔ لیکن اب میں آپ کے سامنے کرکٹ کھیلنے کی پریکٹس کرکے بیٹھا ہوں۔‘
وہ مزید بتاتے ہیں کہ، ’میں گزشتہ 5 برس تک میدان سے دُور رہا۔ میں میدان آنا چاہتا تھا لیکن پھر یہ سوچتا کہ اگر میدان گیا تو وہاں خود کے علاوہ دیگر کو کھیلتے دیکھوں گا، جو ناقابلِ برداشت احساس ہے۔‘
کم عمری میں ہی صلاحیت سے بھرپور انڈر 19 کھلاڑی عمران نے 1999ء کے ایشین ٹیسٹ چیمپئن شپ کے موقعے پر قومی ٹیم کی راہ لی۔ سابق پاکستانی اوپنر نے 2007ء کے ورلڈ کپ میں زمبابوے کے خلاف 160 رنز کی صورت کیریئر کا بہترین اسکور بنایا۔ تاہم کارکردگی میں مستقل مزاجی کے لیے انہیں کافی جدوجہد کرنی پڑی۔
شارجہ اور آسٹریلیا میں ہونے والے ایک روزہ میچوں میں انہوں نے کچھ متاثر کن اننگز کھیلیں، لیکن شاید چند ہی لوگوں کو شین واٹسن کی بال پر ان کا جادوئی چھکا یاد ہو اور یہ کہ کس طرح انہوں نے ورلڈ ٹی 20 کے سپر ایٹ مرحلے کے لیے پاکستان کی راہ ہموار کی۔ بہت ہی کم لوگوں کو جوڑوں کے مرض آرتھرائٹس کے خلاف ان کی جنگ اور اس کے بعد سے پیش آنے والے مسائل کے بارے میں علم ہوگا۔
آرتھرائٹس بھلے ہی اس نوجوان کے لیے قسمت کا ظالمانہ فیصلہ محسوس ہو لیکن عمران اپنے اندر پختہ مذہبی یقین کی بنیاد پر کھڑی مضبوط خود اعتمادی رکھتے ہیں۔
وہ کہتے ہیں کہ، ’یہ سب خدا کی طرف سے لکھا تھا اور میں رب کائنات کا شکر ادا کرتا ہوں کہ اس نے مشکل وقت میں بھی مجھے خوش رکھا۔ میں نے وہ 5 برس خوشیوں اور پُرلطف ہو کر گزارے۔ میں کبھی بھی مایوس نہیں ہوا۔ ایک گاؤں سے آنے والا نوجوان پاکستان ٹیم تک بھی پہنچ سکتا ہے اور شہرت حاصل کرسکتا ہے، اگر مجھے یہ منزل اس وقت سخت محنت کرنے پر حاصل ہوسکتی ہے تو اگر میں ایک بار پھر سخت محنت کروں تو کرکٹ میں میری واپسی اب بھی ناممکن نہیں۔‘
اس بیماری کی شروعات 2013ء میں دبئی میں کھیلتے وقت کلائی میں ہونے والے درد سے ہوئی تھی۔ ’میں نے اس پر زیادہ دھیان نہ دیا، کیونکہ بلا گھومانے کی وجہ سے درد ہوتا رہتا ہے۔‘ لیکن جب درد کی شدت کی وجہ سے بلا اٹھانا بھی مشکل ہوگیا تب وہ فوری طور پر پاکستان لوٹے اور پاکستان کرکٹ بورڈ (پی سی بی) کے میڈیکل پینل سے رجوع کیا۔ ’اس وقت مجھے یہ محسوس ہونا شروع ہوا کہ کچھ ہے جو ٹھیک نہیں۔‘
عمران نے 2007ء کے ورلڈ کپ میں زمبابوے کے خلاف 160 رنز کی صورت کیریئر کا بہترین اسکور بنایا

گزرتے دنوں اور ہفتوں کے ساتھ درد جسم میں پھیلتا گیا۔ ’میرے جسم کے ہر ایک جوڑ میں درد محسوس ہوتا۔ میں نہ کھڑا ہوپاتا اور نہ لیٹ پاتا، میرے لیے سونا بھی مشکل ہوگیا تھا۔‘ عمران کا ماننا ہے کہ اگر کسی کا یقین مضبوط ہے تو اسے دشواریوں سے لڑنے کے لیے ہمیشہ تیار رہنا چاہیے۔ ’جب جب تکالیف کا سامنا ہو تو تب تب آپ کو مضبوط رہنا ہے۔ کوئی یہ تصور بھی نہیں کرسکتا ہے کہ میں کن حالات سے گزرا ہوں۔‘
عمران جہاں جاتے، ڈاکٹرز سے ملتے۔ ’مجھے اس بات کا احساس تھا کہ اس مرض کا کوئی علاج نہیں۔ چند لوگوں نے مجھے کہا کہ میں حکیموں اور روحانی علاج کرنے والوں کے پاس جاؤں۔ میں نے سب آزما کر دیکھا۔‘
ڈاکٹروں اور دوستوں نے مجھ سے کہا تھا کہ شاید میں اب کبھی بھی کرکٹ کھیل نہ سکوں۔ انہوں نے مجھے مشورہ دیا کہ ’مجھے اب کوچنگ یا ٹریننگ کا کیریئر اختیار کرلینا چاہیے‘۔ لیکن بطور ایک کھلاڑی، عمران کا قطار میں دوبارہ پیچھے جاکر لگنے کا دُور دُور تک کوئی ارادہ نظر نہیں آیا۔
’یہ غلط ہے، میں کھیلوں گا، میں ضرور کھیلوں گا۔ مجھ میں یہ ضدی پن والی ہٹ دھرمی سی تھی۔‘
اپنے طور پر تحقیق کرنے کے بعد عمران نے علاج کی غرض سے امریکا جانے کا فیصلہ کیا۔ مگر قسمت کو کچھ اور ہی منظور تھا۔ ایک دوست کے ذریعے ان کی ملاقات ایک پاکستانی نژاد امریکی ماہر روماتولوجی سے ہوئی جو ان کے مداح تھے اور پاکستان آئے ہوئے تھے۔ اس وقت عمران کا نکلا ہوا پیٹ دیکھ کر ڈاکٹر نے ان سے صحت کے بارے میں پوچھا۔
’ڈاکٹر نے مجھ سے کہا کہ آپ کو امریکا جانے کی ضرورت نہیں، بلکہ اگر خود امریکا آپ کے پاس آجائے تو کیسا رہے گا؟ مجھے جھٹکا لگا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے 9 سے 10 ماہ دے دیجیے، اس کے بعد آپ دوبارہ کرکٹ کھیلنے کے لیے تیار ہوں گے۔
’مجھے فزیوتھراپی کروانے کا کہا گیا۔ اس کے بعد میں نے اسٹیم سیل تھراپی اور پلیٹیلیٹ رچ پلازمہ (پی آر پی) تھراپی کروائی۔ آہستہ آہستہ، پہلی بار پی آر پی اور پہلی بار اسٹیم سیلز تھراپی کروانے کے بعد خدا کے فضل سے میں نے یہ محسوس کرنا شروع کیا کہ منزل شاید اب زیادہ دُور نہیں۔‘
علاج کے دوسرے مرحلے کے بارے میں بات کرنے سے قبل عمران چپ ہوئے، گہری سانس لی، اور بات کا سلسلہ جاری کیا۔ ’میں بہت سے کام نہیں کرپاتا تھا۔ میں چائے کا کپ نہیں اٹھا پاتا تھا یہاں تک کہ میرے لیے صبح اپنا منہ دھونا بھی ممکن نہ ہوپاتا۔ کچھ ایسی تھی میری صورتحال۔'
’لیکن آہستہ آہستہ میں نے محسوس کیا کہ جیسے زندگی ایک بار پھر میرے اندر سرائیت کر رہی ہے۔ علاج کے دوسرے سے تیسرے مرحلے کے بعد قریب 6 سے 7 ماہ قبل ڈاکٹر نے کہا کہ ’ایک ہفتے کے لیے آرام کریں، پھر چلنا، دوڑنا اور اپنی کرکٹ کھیلنا شروع کردیں۔‘ میں نے کہا ٹھیک ہے۔
اس ایک ہفتے کے بعد عمران دوبارہ میدان میں لوٹے۔ ’میں نے دھیرے دھیرے چلنا، دوڑانا شروع کیا اور میں نے بلے کو اپنے ہاتھوں میں تھامنا شروع کیا۔ مجھے ایسا محسوس ہوا کہ جیسے میں کوئی خواب دیکھ رہا ہوں۔‘ عمران کی آواز میں اب جوش و ولولہ اتر آیا ہے اور بات کرتے وقت ان کا چہرہ کھلا کھلا نظر آتا ہے۔
’میں نے خود کو چٹکی کاٹ کر اپنے آپ کو اس حقیقت کا یقین دلایا۔ ہاں یہ سب حقیقت ہے۔ ایک شخص جو چائے کا کپ یا پانی کی بوتل اٹھانے سے قاصر تھا وہ اپنی پوری طاقت اور جسمانی قوت کے ساتھ دوبارہ کرکٹ کھیلنے کی ابتدا کرنے کے لیے لوٹا تھا، اور بھی اس طرح اچانک۔ دن کے اختتام پر میں نے رب کائنات کا شکر ادا کیا۔ میرے لیے تو اس سب کا تصور بھی محال تھا۔‘ اس کے علاوہ انہوں نے شاہد آفریدی فاؤنڈیشن، ہیومن باڈی اسکین ڈائیگناسٹک سینٹر اور پی سی بی کی فراہم کردہ مدد پر ان کا شکریہ بھی ادا کیا۔
’آپ اسے ٹھیک ہونے کا عمل کہہ سکتے ہیں، جوڑوں کے درمیان فاصلہ تھا کہ جسے بھر دیا گیا ہے، اس بھرائی کے بعد ہی وہ جوڑ مضبوط ہوپاتے ہیں۔‘
تشخیص نے عمران کو اپنی روٹین بھی بہتر کرنے پر مجبور کیا جس میں زیادہ جسمانی حرکت والی سرگرمیاں شامل ہوں۔
’میں گھر کے کام کاج میں اپنے ملازمین کی مدد کرتا اور بچوں کے ساتھ کھیلا کرتا تھا۔ میں اپنا زیادہ تر وقت اپنے اہل خانہ، اپنے بچوں کے ساتھ گزارتا، دن کے اختتام پر میری اہلیہ اور میں خدا سے یہی دعا کرتے کہ میں اس حد تک بستر تک محدود نہ ہوجاوں کہ دوبارہ کبھی اٹھ نہ سکوں۔ اگرچہ حالات ایسے تھے مگر مجھے لگا کہ میری دعائیں قبول ہوگئی تھیں۔ میں نے خدا سے التجا کی کہ میں بستر سے دُور، سرگرم اور تحرک میں ہی رہنا چاہتا ہوں۔‘
ایک معروف کرکٹ کھلاڑی کے ناخوشگوار حالات کو اسی کی زبانی سننا بہت ہی غیر معمولی تجربہ ہے۔ جیسا کہ عمران یہ تسلیم کرتے ہیں کہ، ’مجھے تھوڑی سی بھی جھجھک نہیں ہوتی، مجھے اچھا محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ میں اپنی کہانی لوگوں تک پہنچا سکتا ہوں۔‘
’اگر میری وجہ سے تکلیف کا سامنے کرتے دیگر افراد کو حوصلہ اور مدد مل سکتی ہے تو اس میں حرج ہی کیا ہے؟ آج میں صحتیاب ہوچکا ہوں، اور میں اب اگر اپنے وجود، اپنے پیغام یا رائے کی وجہ سے کسی دوسرے کی مدد کرسکا یا اسے ڈاکٹرز بھی تجویز کرسکا تو میں سمجھوں گا کہ میں نے نیک کام کیا۔ اگر کسی شخص کو آرتھرائٹس کی تکلیف کا سامنا ہے تو وہ ضرور مجھ سے رابطہ کرے اور میں ان مریضوں بشمول ایسے لوگ جو زیادہ صاحبِ حیثیت نہیں، ان کے علاج کے لیے اپنے ڈاکٹر سے ذاتی طور پر درخواست کروں گا۔ یہ ایک مہنگا علاج ہے لیکن میں چاہتا ہوں کہ غریبوں کا علاج ہو۔‘
صرف عمران ہی وہ واحد کرکٹر نہیں کہ جنہیں جوڑوں کے مرض کا سامنا رہا ہے۔ امپائر بلی باؤڈن کو بھی جوڑوں کے پتھرانے (rheumatoid arthritis) کی تکلیف تھی جس کی وجہ سے انہیں اپنا کرکٹ کھیلنے کا کیریئر مختصر کرنا پڑا۔ تاہم عمران بطور سابق توانا بلے باز، حسبِ توقع خود کو دوبارہ اٹھانے کے لیے پُرعزم ہیں۔

'میں خود کو بہت ہی خوش قست انسان سمجھتا ہوں۔ میں نے خود اپنی آنکھوں سے یہ دیکھا ہے کہ جب کھلاڑی کرکٹ چھوڑ جاتے ہیں تو انہیں کوئی بھی یاد نہیں کرتا۔ میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ میں وہ واحد کرکٹر ہوں جسے منظر سے غائب ہونے کے بعد نہ صرف لوگوں نے یاد رکھا بلکہ میرے لیے دعائیں بھی کیں۔ بہت سے لوگوں نے مجھ سے رابطہ کرنے کی کوشش کی۔ لیکن انہیں معلوم ہی نہیں تھا کہ اپنا فون اٹھانا تک میرے بس کی بات نہ تھا۔'
’ایک سے 2، پھر 3 سے 4، 6 سے 8 ماہ بعد میں نے باقاعدہ ٹریننگ، بلے بازی اور ہر کام کا آغاز کردیا۔ میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ یہ سب کچھ ان دعاؤں کا نتیجہ ہے۔ وہ دعائیں جن پر میرا پختہ یقین ہے، یہ ان دعاؤں کی طاقت ہی ہے جو مجھے محسوس ہوئی اور جس کی بدولت میں ابھی ٹریننگ کر پارہا ہوں اور خود کو 80 سے 85 فیصد صحتیاب محسوس کر رہا ہوں۔‘
عمران کے اندر اب بھی سیکھنے اور اپنے اندر بہتری لانے کی صلاحیت موجود ہے۔ ’اگر میں قومی ٹیم کے لیے مکمل طور پر فٹ ہوا یا اگر میں اس سطح پر کھیلنے کے قابل ہوا اور اگر ملک کو میری ضرورت پڑتی ہے تو پھر میں تیار ہوں اور ضرور اپنی خدمات فراہم کرنا چاہوں گا۔ مجھے ہمیشہ سے اپنی سخت محنت اور کوششوں پر یقین رہا ہے۔ سخت محنت کے بعد میں اپنی قسمت کی بہتری کا خواہاں رہتا ہوں۔ لہٰذا مجھے امید ہے کہ خدا کی رضا کے ساتھ شاید اگلے 3 یا 4 برس میں نہ صرف کھیلوں گا بلکہ بہترین کارکردگی بھی دکھاؤں گا۔‘
دنیا میں لاکھوں کی تعداد میں آرتھرائٹس کا سامنا کر رہے افراد کے لیے وہ کس طرح حوصلہ افزائی کا باعث بن سکتے ہیں؟
’میں نے پوری ایمانداری کے ساتھ اپنی صحت پر قابو پایا لیا ہے۔ مثلاً، جب میں بہت زیادہ کھا لیا کرتا تھا، تو یہ میرے لیے بہت تکلیف کا سبب بنتا تھا، لہٰذا میں اپنی غذائی عادت میں تبدیلی لے آیا۔‘
'میں ایک میڈیکل کالج گیا، جہاں میں بہت سے ڈاکٹرز سے ملا، وہاں میں نے ہمیشہ مضبوط رہنے کے بارے میں تقریر کی۔ میں نے وہاں کہا کہ جو کچھ آپ کی قسمت میں لکھا ہے اسے کوئی بھی بدل نہیں سکتا۔ لیکن میں مانتا ہوں کہ میں نے اپنی بیماری سے لڑا اور اسی کی وجہ سے مجھے مثبت نتائج حاصل ہوئے۔‘
’میرا پیغام یہی ہے کہ اگر کوئی بھی اس بیماری سے متاثر ہے، وہ مجھ سے رابطہ کرے. مجھے تلاش کرنا اتنا مشکل نہیں ہے۔ خواہ کوئی بھی ہو، میں اس کی مدد کرنے کے لیے تیار ہوں۔ علاج سے لے کر جو بھی مدد درکار ہو، میں ان کی ہر طرح سے معاونت کروں گا۔ بس ان کے لیے مضبوط رہنا ضروری ہے۔‘
